Headteacher – Jenny Callaghan
I joined Wild Bank in January 2010 as Deputy Head Teacher. Over the last 10 years I have been fortunate to work with our governors, past and present, who have committed their time and energy to the school and our pupils. As Head Teacher I am responsible for the organisation, management and control of the school. It is my duty to advise Governors on the strategic development of the school and implement the Governing Body’s strategic framework. I very much enjoy working with my Governor colleagues, who are hardworking and supportive, but who at the same time rigorously challenge and question me on school improvement and development. Being a Head Teacher is a joy and no two days are ever the same! I am totally committed to the job – it fills me with pride to see the children, as well as the staff, blossom and grow over their time with us.
I have a real passion for the teaching profession and in my 20 years as a teacher I have had the privilege to teach hundreds of amazing pupils. What drives me is my belief that every child has the right to be successful and no child, whatever their background, should ever be left behind. It is a humbling thought to recognize that the children’s futures lie in our hands. Headship at Wild Bank Community School is an awesome responsibility, but one I relish and enjoy. Our children only get one attempt at primary school and I intend to give them the best education I possibly can. My aim is for our children to make outstanding progress.
I’m Celeste Pettifer. Chair at Wild Bank. I’ve always loved working with children, helping them achieve their best educationally, socially and emotionally. I almost trained to be a teacher but life took me down a different path. Being a Governor is a great way for me to be involved in school and I can fit it around my work. I gain skills as a Governor which are useful in my career and I am able to transfer knowledge from my work role to my work as a Governor.
I'm John Apthomas. I’ve been a governor at Wild Bank Community School for twelve years now. Before I retired I worked in education as a teacher, headteacher and Local Authority Inspector. I find it hugely rewarding to be part of the school community, working with the staff at school to give the children the very best education we can. The governors at school are a diverse group of people with one thing in common – a strong and deep commitment to the school and the children. Working with them on all the things we do can be complicated and sometimes challenging but always satisfying. It is tremendously fulfilling to know that we have made a difference. I have been a National Leader of Governance for the last two years.
I’m Graham Handley and I joined Wild Bank Governors in 2017 after moving to Stalybridge in 2016 when my wife, Emma, took on the role of Vicar at St Paul’s Church. Wild Bank school plays an important role in the life of our local community, and being a Governor provides an opportunity to support the school in delivering its vision. I’ve worked in education related roles for over 20 years, initially as a secondary school teacher, and latterly working in the Policy and Strategy team for Bolton Council. In addition to attending Governing Board meetings, I also attend the Curriculum and Standards Committee, and the Finance and Personnel Committee.
I’m Gill Apthomas and I’ve been a governor at Wild Bank since 2008.I feel very fortunate that I was given a good education and enjoyed school so I wanted to “give something back” by volunteering to be a governor.I have been involved with schools for 48 years. Firstly as a primary teacher in a number of Authorities around Manchester and then 20 years as a Headteacher in Stockport. This was followed by consultancy work supporting and training teachers in Assessment and Moderation.My main interest and expertise is in how and what children learn. I believe that learning should be for life (to make the most of life) and throughout life. As a governor I try to use and pass on what I have learnt whilst also keeping up to date and continuing to learn new things.
I’m Rachael Jackson. I’m the staff Governor at Wild Bank. I’ve enjoyed working at the school for four years and have done a variety of teaching roles. I joined the Governing Board two years ago because I wanted to have a positive impact on the vision of the school, ensuring that at the heart of it we met the needs of our children and the wider community. I’ve enjoyed helping to make Wild Bank a school where everyone is valued.
I’m Ian Cochrane and I joined Wild Bank Governors in 2017. I have lived in Stalybridge for over 30 years and been a governor at a neighbouring school in Stalybridge since 2004 and Chair of Governors at that particular school since 2007. I was employed at Tameside Council for over 40 years and spent a lot of my time supporting local community groups whilst I was a Town Manager and Neighbourhood Services Manager. I am still very active in providing support and advice to a number of local groups including in my role as Organising Secretary for Stalybridge Festival Committee. I welcome the opportunity to use my skills and knowledge to support the Governing Body at Wild Bank Community School.
I’m Yvonne Goodwin. I am a parent governor and also work as a midday assistant at Wild Bank. I became a governor to be able to understand how the school is run and how our children are educated. I try to give a positive attitude to this role to maintain the great ethos and values that is provided at Wild Bank.
